Will putting a concrete patio right next to my foundation be damaging to the foundation?

I had a concrete patio put in last summer. They said they were going to be putting in the expansion joint that goes between the patio and the foundation on the house but when they were finished they didn't put it in and told me it wouldn't be necessary. Now after the thaw, (I am in MN), the patio top is chipping away because it shifted along the foundation. Is this going to cause problems for me? I am afraid my foundation may have been weakened by this.

Answer:
could be future trouble for the foundation...they only told you it wouldnt be necessary because they forgot it...see if they cant come back and cut a relief joint next to the wall and caulk it to keep water out...
